What is DBT?
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an outpatient therapy approach created to help individuals struggling to manage their emotions and problematic behaviors that occur as a consequence of them. Emotions like fear, shame, sadness, and anger can lead to extreme behaviors, problems in relationships, and difficulty managing one’s thoughts. With the help of a Linehan Board of Certification Certified Individual Therapist, DBT is proven to help people change their behavior patterns, effectively cope with stress and regulate their emotions, and improve interpersonal relationships.
Should I consider DBT?
DBT is a life improvement program for individuals 18+ years of age. The goal of this treatment is to help individuals develop a life they find meaningful and satisfying.
DBT was created to help individuals struggling with suicide/self harm behaviors and, with more than 20 years of research behind the treatment, DBT has also proven to help people with other mental health struggles including: treatment resistant depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and substance abuse/addiction. DBT focuses on helping you to enhance your ability to live in the present moment and to change problematic behavioral patterns, moving away from harmful behaviors and replacing them with healthy alternatives.
What does our DBT program involve?
